Division of Pediatric Dentistry

The Division of Pediatric Dentistry hosts a two-year program offering well-balanced didactic and clinical curriculum with ample learning opportunities aimed at successful completion of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry certification process.

Clinical and didactic teaching opportunities include teaching co-residents, dental students, allied health staff and medical trainees. In addition to earning a certificate in pediatric dentistry, our residents are required to prepare and successfully defend a master's thesis and submit a publishable form to appropriate peer-reviewed journals. Research training, funds and time are incorporated in the curriculum. The program is known for its resident research, having captured numerous awards with the guidance of world-renowned pediatric dentistry faculty.  Elective rotations and continuing education opportunities are provided throughout the residency program.

A diverse full-time faculty devotes a large percent of its effort to the residency program, as do active and retired pediatric dentists from private practice who participate regularly in the educational process. This mix of full- and part-time attendings provides the resident with a variety of role models and different treatment approaches for any given clinical situation.

Patient care opportunities include primary care pediatric dentistry in a modern 30-chair dental clinic housed at Nationwide Children's Hospital. Residents are assigned their own dental assistant for all care. Sedation and general anesthesia experiences are available at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. The residency program also provides dental care opportunities for children with special health care needs in either the clinic settings or main operating room suites. Orthodontic treatment is provided under the guidance of orthodontists.

The Pediatric Dentistry Residency Program has full accreditation from the American Dental Association Commission on Dental Accreditation.
