Cutaneous wounds generally heal with the formation of a permanent scar, which can lead to functional and aesthetic deficiencies that negatively affect one's quality of life. However, at early stages of development, embryonic skin is able to completely regenerate skin in response to injury without the formation of a scar. This talk will summarize what is known about scarless fetal wound healing and discuss how this information might be leveraged to promote regeneration and reduce scarring in mature skin.
