This course is a prerequisite for application to the EFDA continuing education course at The Ohio State University College of Dentistry.

This course provides an overview of the terminology and characteristics of all teeth in the adult and deciduous dentition. The course is open to all dental professionals, but it is a mandatory prerequisite for acceptance into the EFDA Continuing Education program offered through OSU. The course will include hands-on identification of all important tooth structures (pits, fissures, fossae, cusps, ridges, contours, preparation walls and angles, etc.).

Completion of this course prepares one to take the CDCA examination required for dental hygiene local anesthesia credentialing in Ohio. Participants will complete 13 hours of on-line self-study prior to attending the 16 hour lecture and hands-on sessions. Participants will be taught in the Ohio State University College of Dentistry under the supervision of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery faculty and Dental Hygiene faculty.  All participants will give and receive injections and will be asked to complete a consent form and provide proof of current vaccinations prior to attending.

This course will help you regain a comprehensive understanding of oral, head and neck anatomy and improve your confidence in accurately assessing your patient’s clinical care needs.

Clinical applications will provide practical application for general dentists and specialists in areas such as:

  • Hard and soft tissue examination of the dental patient

  • Principles of intraoral flap design
