Completion of this course prepares one to take the CDCA examination required for dental hygiene local anesthesia credentialing in Ohio. Participants will complete 13 hours of on-line self-study prior to attending the 16 hour lecture and hands-on sessions. Participants will be taught in the Ohio State University College of Dentistry under the supervision of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery faculty and Dental Hygiene faculty.  All participants will give and receive injections and will be asked to complete a consent form and provide proof of current vaccinations prior to attending.

This course meets the Ohio State Dental Board 6 hour CE requirement for Dental Hygienists to become eligible to administer nitrous oxide sedation, and for Dental Assistants to monitor nitrous oxide sedation. All participants are required to pass a written exam.

This course is designed to prepare the certified dental assistant to properly apply dental sealants in the dental practice. Participants should bring a sample of the sealant material used in your office and bring as many extracted teeth as you can in a sterilization pouch.

This board approved lecture/hands-on course satisfies the 8 hour CE requirement from the Ohio State Dental Board for CDA's to perform this function.

*During the clinical portion of the course, students will be both operator and patient as you will practice the techniques on a classmate.

Panoramic radiographs provide an image of both jaws and the dentition in a single film. Accurate patient positioning is critical to ensure a diagnostic panoramic image. This course will address the proper steps to obtain a superb panoramic image. Attendees will gain knowledge with case-based interpretation of panoramic radiographs, and commonly seen errors. Attendees will also learn how to systematically read a panoramic radiograph to identify and diagnose any pathological lesions.

This seminar will review the conventional visual and tactile examination (CVTE) of the dental patient and emphasize the early clinical features of potentially malignant oral lesions in an interactive format.  Updates to the 2010 ADA guidelines for the patient examination will be discussed, including the value of current diagnostic adjuncts.

Small Group Hands-On: Limited Attendance

Current radiology certification is required to take this course.

This course offers an overview of the different types of digital imaging, including the CCDCMOS, and PSP systems. Learn sensor placement and infection control procedures while using digital sensors, image enhancement techniques, and tips for troubleshooting errors on digital images. Participants will also take intraoral digital images on DXTTR and receive hands-on experience with image enhancement and observe intraoral and panoramic digital radiography procedures in the college’s radiology clinic.

This 4 credit hour lecture/discussion is designed to give the participant a better understanding of the causes and contributing factors of dental medical emergencies, while recognizing the signs and symptoms of possible emergencies that may occur in the dental office. The participant will be able to describe initial treatment indicated, incorporate the knowledge of prevention techniques, and state stress reduction protocols.

Pursuant to House Bill 463, this course satisfies the OSDB 4-hour CE requirement for dental hygienists, CDAs, and EFDAs to practice when the dentist is not physically present.  (Additional requirements include CPR certification and one year/1,500 hours of experience for DH, and two years/3,000 hours for CDA.)
