Dr. Matthew Messina, Dental Clinic Director
Matthew Messina, DDS, graduated first in his class from The Ohio State University College of Dentistry in 1987. After graduation, he completed a general practice residency at the Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio. A practicing general dentist for more than 30 years, he has also served as a visiting faculty member at the Pankey Institute for advanced dental education in Key Biscayne, Florida.
Dr. Messina is recognized nationally for his presentations and publications on issues related to dental ethics, as well as his lectures on leadership skills that allow dentists to provide optimal care for their patients. He is currently a consumer advisor for the American Dental Association, serving as a national spokesperson since 1995. Throughout his career, he has appeared on ABC's Good Morning America program and he has been interviewed on CNN and National Public Radio. He has also provided comments on dental health and related subjects for USA TODAY, the New York Times, the Washington Post, Cosmopolitan, Men's Health, Web MD, and Prevention Magazine.
Dr. Colleen Cornelius, Dental Clinic Associate Director
Colleen Cornelius, DDS, graduated from Northwestern University’s Dental School in 1999. Following graduation, she practiced general dentistry for 14 years as the co-owner of a private practice in Utah, where she cared for pediatric and adult dental patients.
As an Assistant Professor-Practice in the College of Dentistry’s Division of General Practice and Materials Science, Dr. Cornelius provides pre-clinical, classroom, and clinical instruction for pre-doctoral students, while also serving as the Associate Director of OSU Upper Arlington Dentistry. In that role, she offers general dentistry services and works with the clinic’s professional and support staff to ensure the timely and appropriate inter-professional care of patients.
Ms. Anna Madden, Clinic Manager
An alumna of the College of Dentistry, Ms. Madden graduated in 1997 with a B.S. degree in Dental Hygiene. Her professional experience includes serving as a dental hygienist in the Columbus area from 1997 until 2012, in addition to her work as an orthodontics treatment coordinator. Prior to joining the college, she was the director of clinical operations for the Dermatologists of Greater Columbus.
In her role at the Ohio State Upper Arlington Dentistry facility, Ms. Madden directs and manages the administrative, operational, fiscal, and human resources activities of the dental clinic.
Ms. Maggie Hand, Dental Hygienist
A graduate of Ohio State’s Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene degree program, Maggie has served as a dental hygienist for Columbia Healthy Smiles, Clintonville General Dentistry, and Meyers Family Dental. As the clinic’s dental hygienist, Maggie works directly with patients by providing both routine oral health checkups and comprehensive periodontal therapy, reviewing patients’ oral health histories, teaching appropriate brushing and flossing techniques, cleaning patients’ teeth, and making radiographic (X-ray) images of the teeth for the dentist's analysis.
Ms. Brittney Dietsch, Senior Dental Assistant
Brittney serves the College of Dentistry’s Upper Arlington clinic as a senior dental assistant. She was formerly a dental assistant in the College of Dentistry’s Advanced Prosthodontics Clinic. As a member of the Upper Arlington clinic staff, Brittney’s duties include maintaining and cleaning dental equipment, dispensing materials, managing inventories, coordinating laboratory services, and overseeing the sterilization areas.
Ms. Allye Deskins, Dental Assistant
As a clinic staff member in the College of Dentistry’s Upper Arlington clinic, Allye is a dental assistant whose responsibilities include chairside assisting, taking dental impressions, coordinating outside referrals, making radiographs (X-rays), and maintaining a safe and clean environment for patients, practitioners, and other staff. Allye joined the Upper Arlington clinic after serving as a dental assistant in the College of Dentistry.
Ms. Erin Miller, Office Associate
Ms. Miller began working at The Ohio State University College of Dentistry in 2013 as an Information Associate in the Comprehensive Care Clinics. In addition to providing clinical support to students in the hygiene and dental programs, she also assisted faculty and staff. She most recently served as the Lead of Patient Registration and Records. The experience gained from the various assignments at the College of Dentistry provide a solid foundation for Erin’s role as Office Associate at Ohio State Upper Arlington Dentistry.
Ms. Jordan Shiplet, Dental Claims Specialist
Jordan serves the College of Dentistry’s Upper Arlington clinic as a dental claims specialist and patient scheduler/registrar. She joined the clinic after serving as an office specialist and registrar for Miami Valley Cardiology, Comfort Dental, and Ohio Health. As a member of the clinic staff, Jordan’s responsibilities include insurance verification and pre-authorizations, collection of co-pays, dental billing, appeals claims, payment arrangements, and other collection functions.
