2016 Distinguished Alumni
Oral surgeon James Bertz, ’61 DDS, MD, was presented with the Dental Alumni Society’s 2016 Distinguished Alumni Award at the Dental Alumni Society Luncheon during Homecoming Weekend. Dr. Bertz's expertise in cleft lip and palate surgeries has taken him around the world on medical missions to help underserved populations. He has also served as president of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and held various faculty positions at the University of Texas and Baylor University. Currently in private practice in Scottsdale Arizona, Dr. Bertz continues to hold a number of adjunct clinical faculty positions at several distinguished schools of dentistry and medicine.
Peter Larsen, DDS, Chair, Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Anesthesiology at the College of Dentistry, presented the award. “I can assure you that even though I know him well, I cannot possibly do justice to his illustrious career. I cannot think of a finer representative from our many alumni to receive this recognition.”
