Dr. Ronald Kerby Scholarship
In his more than two decades of teaching at the College if Dentistry, Ronald E. Kerby, DDS earned a reputation of unwavering excellence in teaching and research. Although he passed away in July of 2014, his legacy of inspired teaching will live on through a scholarship named in his honor, the Dr. Ronald Kerby Scholarship Fund.
“Dr. Kerby devoted his life to teaching and training dental students,” said Patrick M. Lloyd, dean of the College of Dentistry. “It means a great deal to all of us at the college to be able to keep his memory alive through this fund.”
"The confidence I have as a dentist today is due in part to your teaching methods and encouragement. You are a true inspiration and your legacy will live forever through your students around the globe.” -- From Ronald E. Kerby Tributes
Established in accordance with Dr. Kerby’s wishes, the endowment’s initial funding goal is $50,000. This will create a scholarship award of $2,500 annually for a second-year dental student—an amount that could increase if the endowment increases. For a recipient to be selected, he or she must demonstrate diligence, a commitment to excellence, and the most significant, measurable improvement in hand skills between the first and third years in the DDS program. Scholarship recipients must also demonstrate self-discipline, high ethical standards, and the desire to go “above and beyond” in their academic performance.
“We hope the College of Dentistry community—including alumni, faculty, and friends—unite to fund this scholarship as quickly as possible, so we can begin recognizing Dr. Kerby’s genuine passion for students and the dental profession,” said Ted Backus, Senior Director of Development and Alumni Affairs. “Every gift is important in accomplishing our mission of fully funding this scholarship.”
