Shared Values Awards
This spring, Dean Carroll Ann Trotman hosted the college’s first Shared Values Awards for students. Ohio State introduced the Shared Values to the university community in 2021, and they are foundational in what Ohio State will do and become. Likewise, shared values are at the center of everything students, staff and faculty do at the College of Dentistry.
Ohio State’s values include:
Excellence and Impact – Demonstrating leadership in pursuit of our vision and mission
Diversity and Innovation – Welcoming differences and making connections among people and ideas
Inclusion and Equity – Upholding equal rights and advancing institutional fairness
Care and Compassion – Attending to the well-being of individuals and communities
Integrity and Respect – Acting responsibly and being accountable
The Shared Values Awards ceremony began with remarks from Dean Carroll Ann Trotman and Gates Garrity-Rokous, JD, vice president and chief compliance officer at The Ohio State University. Prior to the event, faculty and staff nominated students, and a Shared Values committee reviewed the nominees and selected five senior dental hygiene and dental students who demonstrate shared values through their outstanding behavior in the classroom and clinics. The winning students each received a $1,000 scholarship award provided through the generosity of the Dental Alumni Society.
“Our students’ actions do reflect our shared values, and I am proud of what they have done.” Dean Trotman said during her remarks. “I am also excited about what we will accomplish moving forward. There is no limit to what we can achieve as a college that embodies these values.”
