Staff Spotlight: Kevin Levings
A College of Dentistry employee for 16 years, Kevin Levings is an expert when it comes to creating schedules for third-year (D3) students entering clinic as well as fourth-year (D4) students completing their OHIO Project hours. When he’s not at work juggling the schedules of 220 students or spending time with his family after hours, Kevin can reliably be counted on to be shooting an amazing game of golf at his favorite course.
Q) What do you do at the College of Dentistry?
A) Each semester I create the individual master schedule for 110 D3 students to incorporate the four main clinics of Emergency, Pediatrics, Patient Intake and Radiology. I work with faculty to arrange student coverage for specific assigned days and rotations. In addition, I create 110 semester schedules for all students in the D4 class for a portion of their senior year by working with 26 community partner sites located throughout Ohio. Each D4 student is scheduled for two-week blocks for a total of 50 days before graduation. I handle students’ special requests and conflicts in scheduling while managing communication channels of detail switches with faculty and student clinic desks.
Q) What do you like best about your job?
A) I like working with the students very much and I especially like working with my team, which is directed by Dr. Canise Bean. We have worked together for over 15 years and have a great relationship with a productive mission to provide our students with a quality experience in service and learning.
Q) What do you like best about Ohio State and/or the College of Dentistry?
A) Besides the people (who are the best!), I like that we have an impact on our students’ education and life-long career decisions. Also, leadership at the college on all levels is positive and communicative. I never dread coming to work. Also, I take pride in working at The Ohio State University. It is a great place to work.
Q) What do you like to do outside of work?
A) I have two wonderful kids who are very active in school and sports. They keep my wife and me very busy with their schedules and we enjoy watching them participate. When I am not at home with the family, I love to golf, and some say I am pretty good at it. And, of course, I enjoy watching the Buckeyes! O-H!
