Akil Houston, PhD, to Serve as Chief Diversity Officer and Assistant Dean for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
Dr. Akil Houston will join the college on June 1 as the Chief Diversity Officer and Assistant Dean for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. His education includes a B.A. degree in mass media arts from Clark Atlanta University. He continued his education at Ohio University where he received an M.A. degree in international affairs; an MFA degree in film; and a Ph.D. in cultural studies. Dr. Houston currently serves as an associate professor of Cultural and Media Studies in the Department of African American Studies at Ohio University.
In his role as the college's Chief Diversity Officer, Dr. Houston will work to advance the college’s values, vision, and mission related to diversity, equity, and inclusion; partner with the Offices of Human Resources and Academic Affairs to advance the recruitment and retention of a diverse workforce; and continue to promote an inclusive, equitable work environment throughout the college.
