Artist Athena LaTocha to Visit Postle Hall

Artwork by Athena LaTocha

We're pleased to welcome artist Athena LaTocha to Postle Hall on November 2 for a public talk and reception.

Athena created “A Shape Beneath the Trees,” two large works of art that adorn the walls of the Atrium. The project was funded through Ohio's Percent for Art Program.

To create the pieces, Athena used soil collected from across central Ohio. She mixed the soil with paint to help tell the story of the land and the people who have lived there. As sunlight moves through the Atrium, different colors, textures, and details appear throughout the day.

Born and raised in Alaska, Athena is known for creating large works inspired by the natural world. Her work can be seen in museums across the country, including the Smithsonian's National Museum of the American Indian and the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts.

During her visit, Athena will share more about her creative process and the story behind the artwork. The college community and the public are invited to attend. More details about the event will be shared soon.
