Athena La Tocha's Earth-Inspired Mural Unveiled at Postle Hall

Artist Athena La Tocha has transformed the Atrium at Postle Hall with a new mural. Thanks to Ohio’s Percent for Art Program—which requires that a small percentage of state funds for public building projects be set aside for public art—the university commissioned the acclaimed artist to create an original mural for the space.

Influenced by her upbringing in Anchorage, Alaska, La Tocha’s mixed-media works incorporate ink, soil and other materials, exploring the relationship between humans and the natural landscape. The mural for Postle Hall includes similar natural materials sourced from Ohio, bringing a sense of movement and earth-inspired texture to the Atrium. Meticulously crafted offsite and installed over the course of a week, the artwork underscores Ohio’s commitment to integrating art into public spaces.

Ms. La Tocha’s work has been featured in exhibitions across the United States, including the National Gallery of Art, the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, and the Santa Fe Museum of Contemporary Native Arts. A reception and official unveiling will be announced in 2026. View photos of the artwork below.
