Abraham Schneider, DDS, PhD, to Serve as Associate Dean for Research
Dr. Abraham Schneider earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Cayetano Heredia Peruvian University in Lima, Peru. He completed a general dentistry residency at the Eastman Dental Center in Rochester, New York, and a periodontics residency at the University of Connecticut Health Center in Farmington, Connecticut. He currently serves as a tenured professor and chair of the Department of Oncology and Diagnostic Sciences at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry in Baltimore, Maryland. He also directs the Dental Biomedical Sciences PhD Program.
Dr. Schneider has taught extensively at both the pre-doctoral and graduate levels. He currently serves as an elected representative to the joint International Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research (IADR) and the American Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research (AADOCR) Publications Committee. He is also an editorial board member for the Journal of Dental Research. His research funded by the National Institutes of Health focuses on novel tunable metformin-releasing injectable scaffolds to enhance dental pulp stem cell-based craniofacial bone regeneration.
As the Associate Dean for Research, Dr. Schneider will oversee all aspects of the college’s research program, including strategy, operations, and resource administration across all divisions. His appointment is effective November 3, 2025.
