Canise Bean, DMD, MPH, Receives ADEA's William J. Gies Award
Dr. Canise Bean is a professor-clinical in the Division of General Practice and Materials Science, and and she is the Director of the Office of Community Education. Throughout her career, Dr. Bean has been committed to finding innovative ways to improve oral health care for Ohio's citizens and communities in need.
Her efforts were recently recognized when she was selected as a recipient of the American Dental Education Association's (ADEA) William J. Gies Award for Vision, Innovation, and Achievement. Honored for her "superior demonstration of outstanding vision as a dental educator," Dr. Bean was presented with the award at this year's ADEA Gies Awards Gala in Orlando.
As a dentist and educator, Dr. Bean has been recognized with a number of honors. In 2016, she received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Forest City Dental Society of Cleveland for her success in creating and implementing oral health improvement programs for underserved adults and children in Ohio. She is also a Fellow of the Pierre Fauchard Academy and the International College of Dentists -- both of which recognize high ethical standards and dedication to service.
Dr. Patrick Lloyd, Dean of the College of Dentistry, said, "I had the distinct privilege of introducing Dr. Bean at the Gies Awards event, which was a proud moment for our entire college. These awards are especially prestigious and highly competitive, and I am so pleased that Dr. Bean received this recognition that is so well deserved."
