Dr. Kyulim Lee, an assistant professor in the Division of Pediatric Dentistry, recently received an R56 grant from the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR) for $645,988.

The project investigates the role of bacteriophages in dental caries by characterizing the oral phageome and its impact on bacterial communities. It also explores the therapeutic potential of phages against cariogenic bacteria, aiming to develop new strategies for caries prevention and treatment. The research will be conducted in collaboration with Dr. Justin Kaspar, an Assistant Professor in the Division of Biosciences, whose research on oral bacteria has been consistently funded by the NIDCR.
