OKU Presents Awards and Welcomes New Members
The College of Dentistry's Theta Chapter of the Omicron Kappa Upsilon (OKU) honor society recently welcomed this year's new members at a banquet on April 3 that included the presentation of two student awards.
The keynote speaker was David Owsiany, JD, the Executive Director of the Ohio Dental Association. He spoke about the importance of the relationship between Ohio's dental organizations and the state's educational institutions that prepare dentists and dental hygienists to meet Ohioans' oral health care needs.
The new D4 student inductees also were introduced: Mason Bahador; Frederick Keppler; Katherine Kimberly; Bryan Kuhlman; Nicole Lochard; Nathan Loughridge; Julene Mnayarji; Shaun Murphy; Mitchell Poole; Danielle Richman; John Simindinger; and Maria Warren. A new faculty inductee, Soraya Villarroel, DDS, MS, an associate professor-clinical in the Division of Restorative and Prosthetic Dentistry, was also introduced.
The William S. Kramer Award of Excellence was presented to D3 Petr Vaughan. The Orville E. Russell Award of Excellence was given to D2 Kazune Pax. Both students were honored for their scholastic achievements, outstanding character, and their potential for contributing to the advancement of dentistry and service to humanity.
