Rachel Kearney, BSDH, MS, is Dental Hygiene Chair
Ms. Rachel Kearney began her new position as Chair of the Division of Dental Hygiene on July 1. She currently serves as an Associate Professor and Graduate Program Director in the division.
An Ohio State alumna, Ms. Kearney earned her Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene degree in 2005, after which she completed a Master of Science degree in Allied Medical Education. She is a doctoral student in the College of Education and Human Ecology's Department of Educational Studies and Learning Technologies at Ohio State.
In 2007, Ms. Kearney joined the college as a dental hygiene instructor and was soon promoted to the position of Assistant Professor. She was later appointed as the Graduate Program Director and was also promoted to the rank of Associate Professor.
Throughout her career, Ms. Kearney has been a practicing dental hygienist, and she has been active in local and national dental hygiene organizations. She is currently a member of the American Dental Education Association's Council of Allied Dental Program Directors. And, in 2014, she was selected as a Fellow of the prestigious American Dental Education Association (ADEA) Leadership Institute, which develops the nation's future leaders in dental and higher education.
In 2016, Ms. Kearney co-authored the textbook, Dental Hygiene: Applications to Clinical Practice, a publication that presents foundational knowledge integrated with clinical procedures and techniques. In addition to scholarly publications, she conducts her own research that focuses on technology and education, with a special emphasis on the use of social media in dental and dental hygiene education.
