Research Day 2015
The College of Dentistry will present its 31st Annual Research Day on February 24, 2015 from 7:00 a.m. until 1:00 pm. at the Ohio Union. The event will feature dental and dental hygiene students, post-doctoral and Ph.D. students, residents, and fellows, who will present more than 50 abstracts on an array of cutting-edge research topics.
“Research Day recognizes the dedication and hard work of our students, postdoctoral fellows and residents, and celebrates their exceptional efforts as part of the outstanding research program here in dentistry,” said Associate Dean John F. Sheridan, PhD. “The event prepares our students for the national competitions of the International Association for Dental Research/American Association of Dental Research (IADR/AADR), and provides valuable feedback to students from senior researchers and distinguished faculty.”
Top presenters qualify to compete at the ADA/Dentsply Student Clinician Program at the ADA meeting or at the nationally recognized Hinman Student Dental Research Symposium.
In addition to student research, this year’s event will also feature research from College of Dentistry faculty Binnaz Leblebicioglu, DDS, MS, PhD, associate professor, and Dimitris Tatakis, DDS, PhD, professor, both from the Division of Periodontology.
The keynote speaker will be distinguished lecturer and scientist, Robert J. Genco, DDS, PhD, SUNY Distinguished Professor of Oral Biology, Microbiology and Immunology, and vice provost and director of Science, Technology Transfer and Economic Outreach, at the State University of New York at Buffalo. Dr. Genco will share his exploration of the relationship between oral health and systemic health, and the clinical importance of this relationship as it influences interprofessional training and patient care.
