Dean Carroll Ann Trotman Inducted as Fellow, Pierre Fauchard Academy
Dr. Carroll Ann Trotman, dean of the College of Dentistry, was recently inducted as a Fellow of the Pierre Fauchard Academy, an international dental honor organization that recognizes those who demonstrate professionalism, ethics, and service that advances dentistry through research, public service, and excellence in programs, education, and leadership.
Dr. Trotman was appointed as dean of the college in August 2021. Prior to joining Ohio State, she served as a tenured Professor and Chair of the Department of Orthodontics, and Associate Dean for Faculty Development at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine.
Dr. Trotman received her dental degree from Dundee University in Scotland, and a certificate in Orthodontics from Columbia University. She completed a Fellowship in Craniofacial Anomalies at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto and then was appointed as an Assistant/Associate Professor at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry. She also obtained degrees in Oral Biology and Clinical Research Design and Statistics.
Subsequently, she was appointed Associate and then Professor at the University of North Carolina (UNC) School of Dentistry. While at UNC, she served as Interim Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and then Assistant Dean for Graduate Education and Academic Development. She then moved to the University of Maryland School of Dentistry as a Professor and Associate Dean for Academic and Student Affairs.
Dr. Trotman is a Fellow of the American Council on Education; a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics; and she maintains an NIH-funded research program with a focus on assessing functional outcomes in patients with cleft lip and palette and facial paralysis. As the College of Dentistry’s senior leader, she is committed to implementing innovations in the dental curricula; utilizing contemporary technologies for education and patient care; and advancing the college’s research initiatives.
