SMS Spore Testing Video Transcript
Sterilization Monitoring Service has been part of the Ohio State College of Dentistry since 1982.
We know that you work hard every single day to deliver the best services possible. By helping us with a few things on your end you allow us to provide the best services that we can.
Filling out your envelope from SMS may seem like a redundant task, but by filling it out correctly it helps us perform our job accurately and deliver your test results to you in a timely manner.
Before sterilizing your strip in the autoclave be sure you are removing the bacterial strip from the side labeled “test strip” and adding an integrator strip to ensure that the cycle is properly run before you enclose the strip and a sterilization pouch.
You can verify that the cycle was completed and the test strip is sterilized by checking to make sure that the integrator color is in the safe range.
Next, remove the test strip from the sterilization pouch and place the strip back in the envelope as it came. This saves us time when testing your strip.
When filling out the information on your envelope, be sure your SMS number is present and visible and the operator name, date and equipment ID are properly filled out. Not filling out the date and equipment ID are the most common errors we see so please pay special attention to include those before sending off your envelope.
This envelope is also incorrectly filled out. Please do make a note if you are using a rental or a loaner autoclave, but be sure to also include the normal testing information. Use the equipment ID that the loaner autoclave is replacing.
Lastly, if you’re using an autoclave or chemiclave only mark the corresponding number and the row labeled with the type of equipment you have. Circling multiple rows, as seen here, will result in an equipment ID error.
Thank you for subscribing to SMS and supporting the Ohio State University College of Dentistry.
