Studied Dental Hygiene at The Ohio State University
Why I chose The Ohio State University College of Dentistry:
Besides in-state tuition, OSU believed in me and gave me a chance to prove myself.
Why I wanted to become a dentist:
Since I was in the second or third grade I wanted to be a dentist. What I thought were dentists, were actually hygienists that came to my school and taught us about oral hygiene. I was so excited when they came that I went home and brushed my teeth after every time I ate anything. They really impacted my life. From that day forth, I always said I wanted to be a dentist.
I really do not have a favorite class, but I enjoy different aspects of multiple classes. For example, I enjoy the relaxation of waxing teeth in my Occlusion class, the immunity portion of Microbiology, and placing composite restorations in my Restorative II class.
3 things people should know about me:
- I have a four year old son
- I have been a hygienist for 18 years
- Perseverance and faith are what led me to where I am now
What I enjoy doing outside of dental school:
I enjoy spending time with my son. We do activities like go to the movies, the park, play games and go to COSI.
Best advice for succeeding in dental school:
Keep up with studying the material for each course. If you find yourself struggling.....GET HELP! If a professor is willing to provide help outside of class, utilize that extra time.
What do you wish you would have known as an incoming D1?
I wish I would have known how much time you really have to spend outside of class practicing hand skills and studying to be successful in dental school.
Plans for after graduation:
Once I graduate, I would like to work in an under-served area in a low-income or free clinic. I had the opportunity to volunteer in free clinics and each time has been a rewarding experience.
