Prospective Students

Student Profile: Kelsey Stehli, Class of 2017

DDS Program
Undergrad: BA in International Relations from The Ohio State University

Why I chose The Ohio State University College of Dentistry:

Everyone at the interview event was really nice, and people talked about how much all the students work together and really try to help one another. I think community was a really important factor for me in choosing a dental school. You want a good support network to help you get through rough times or help you with procedures you're unsure of and I felt like I would have that at Ohio State.Read more

Hometown:

I'm from a small farming town called Mantua in northeastern Ohio. There is one street light and it was a big deal when a McDonald's opened there.

Educational Background:

BA in International Relations from The Ohio State University

Why I chose The Ohio State University College of Dentistry:

Everyone at the interview event was really nice, and people talked about how much all the students work together and really try to help one another. I think community was a really important factor for me in choosing a dental school. Why I wanted to become a dentist:

I've been around a lot of inspirational dentists and was impressed by how much you can change someone's life through it. It's also a perfect mix of art and engineering.

Favorite class:

Removable Partial Dentures, the instructor was a really good. RPD is a very relaxing class where you get to color with a purpose.

3 things people should know about me:

  1. I briefly owned a blueberry farm.
  2. I lived in Brazil for 6 months volunteering in an orphanage.
  3. I love Miyazaki/Studio Ghibli films.

What I enjoy doing outside of dental school:

I like to cook, ride my bicycle, read and hang out with my Bernese Mountain puppy.

Best advice for succeeding in dental school:

It's really not worth it to stress out over things. You will make it through and everything will be okay. Work hard, but remember to have fun too.

What do you with you would have known as an incoming D1?

I wish I could go back and tell myself to make a filing system for my notes. Kept my notes; by your 3rd year you're going to need to refer back to them so it's good to have them in easily accessible order.

Plans for after graduation:

I'm taking over a practice in Chardon, Ohio.
